Colonial Bread

An early American favorite with a sweet rich flavor and unique texture.

 

Ingredients

1 Package of Yeast (2¼ Teaspoons)
3½  Cups Bread Flour
½ Cup Yellow Cornmeal
1½ Cups Boiling Water
½ Cup Molasses (can use honey as well & a touch of cinnamon)
1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Tablespoon Butter

Directions

Place cornmeal into a bowl. Carefully pour boiling water into cornmeal stirring until smooth. Cover and let stand for about 30 minutes until warm enough to touch. Stir in molasses, salt and butter. Add mixture to yeast & flour. Make bread as you normally would any other bread recipe at this point.

You will enjoy this bread like no other. We not only like to eat it hot from the cooling rack, it is wonderful for sandwiches & Cheese toast or plain toast with jelly. It won't last long. Eat up!
